Do you think it's to late?

By Adge747 Parker of Healthy Answers

While it's never "too late" to begin taking nutritional Food supplements, I was surprised - and a little disappointed - to learn recently that people don't incorporate them into their daily lives until they've been diagnosed with a serious illness. According to a recent study conducted by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the US, "having a chronic medical condition such as cancer is the primary factor in a person's decision to use dietary supplements."

They looked at the records of over 9,000 people and found that those who had been diagnosed with a chronic illness were much less likely to be taking vitamins, Food Supplements or other nutrients than people who were disease-free.

As I said above, I find this disappointing - and not because it could easily be construed as an attempt by the all-too-mainstream NCI to paint supplements as "last-ditch efforts" employed by people desperate to stop a deadly disease from stealing their future.

What I find disappointing is that so many people wait until AFTER their health is in jeopardy before they explore the health potential of nutrients and nutrition.

While vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements can have amazing disease-fighting effects, most natural medicine doctors agree that their preventative benefits are far more important. And taking advantage of those benefits may very well keep you from ever needing to discover how well they can fight serious illness.

I know that this Tip may not apply to many of you - after all, you wouldn't be reading if you weren't "sold" on the health benefits of nutrition. But I'm sure you have friends and relatives who aren't (I know I do). So do them a favor and tell them about this message. Even if just a few people take the time to read it and consider adding 3 x Formula IV or Formula IV Plus Food Supplements multivitamin and mineral to their daily routine, it could mean a world of difference to their health in the long run.

Foods Lack Nutrition.
We often assume that our food has good nutritional value. However, many factors such as modern day farming methods, storage and transport each have a tremendous effect on the nutritional content of our food.

The over processing and refining of food destroys vital nutrients. For example, refining wheat flour removes most of the folic acid, iron, calcium, magnesium, copper and many other minerals.

Modern day Farming
As a consequence of over-farming, the 1992 Earth Summit Report highlighted that there has been a 72% loss of minerals in European soils over the last 100 years.
The following study shows how many essential minerals have been lost in our food compared to 50 years ago.
Vegetables Essential mineral loss Fruit Essential mineral loss
Runner Beans Nearly 100% less sodium Orange 67% less iron
Water Cress 93% less copper Avocado 62% less sodium
Carrots 75% less magnesium Strawberry 55% less calcium
Broccoli 75% less calcium Melon 45% less magnesium
Spring Onions 74% less calcium Passion Fruit 43% less potassium
Swedes 71% less iron Raspberry 39% less calcium
Spinach 60% less iron Blackberry 35% less calcium
Potatoes 47% less phosphorous Rhubarb 32% less potassium
Organic farmers embrace the traditional methods of leaving fields to rest, building nutrients in the soil naturally, resulting in nutrient rich crops. For the same reasons it is essential to use organically sourced supplements for their nutritional content.

Pesticides
The cocktail effect of various pesticides being consumed in our food is of great concern to many scientists who believe these chemicals can be detrimental to your health. It is equally important to ensure you get pesticide and herbicide free supplements. GNLD guarantee their products are free from both of these chemicals.

Cold Storage
Many fruits and vegetables in the supermarkets may have been in cold storage for 6 to 9 months. Cold storage can and does have a negative impact on the nutritional value of our food.
Random tests prove the nutritional value of food varies. For example, one carrot was tested and found to have 1850mg of Vitamin A, whilst another was found to have only 75mg. One orange tested was found to have 70mg of Vitamin C whilst another randomly picked orange contained just a trace. These tests highlight the nutritional inconsistency of the food we eat today and reinforce the need to fill gaps in our diets by using food supplements.

Pollution

Pollution comes in many forms depleting vital nutrients in the body and causing excess free radical damage.
Inhaling one cigarette for example, can deplete as much as 75mg of Vitamin C from the body.75mg is the amount of Vitamin C that you would expect to find in a healthy, freshly picked orange.
Allergies
Allergies can be caused by sensitivity to foods, pollen, dust, animal hair, common drugs, additives and chemicals, many vitamins and herbs can help to alleviate allergic conditions.
Poor Digestion
You have probably heard the adage “you are what you eat”. A more accurate statement would be “you are what you eat, digest and assimilate”.
You can be nutritionally deficient if you aren’t digesting and assimilating your foods effectively. For example, a person who has problems digesting fats may be deficient in Vitamin E. Pancreatic, gallbladder and liver disorders also decrease the body’s ability to assimilate nutrition.
Digestive supplements such as Acidolophus Plus has been formulated to aid digestion.

Prevention is Better than Cure!
Many people are becoming aware that there has been an over use of drugs in recent times with a lack of understanding about the side effects. Examples of these include HRT, antidepressants and antibiotics. Antibiotics kill ‘friendly flora’ in your intestinal system. This friendly bacteria plays a vital role in your immune system.
The major causes of death in western countries are as a result of poor dietary habits and lifestyle. Many illnesses can be prevented by an adequate intake of dietary nutrition, supplements, water and regular exercise.

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for this intel. Very few people realize that a direct result of recent past farming practices, that the nutrition value of the food we eat has degraded.
Here in North Queensland trace element rich rock is being ground to dust and spread on cropping fields. This practice is aimed at organically improving the soils and consequently the nutrition value of the food produced.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi Reg, thanks for the comment, I'm told on a regular basis " I don't need supplements, I eat 5 a day". At least your farmer's are trying to do something about it.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information, Adrian.
I really believe that through reading the internet, many people are trying to eat better, exercise and take vitamins and supplements.
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes.
Frederick

Thank you for your comment Frederick, I was beginning to think the same but when I talk to people they all seem to be under the impression that they are eating healthily and don't need to supplement!
Adrian

I think the ideal situation is where you start eating right from birth, but we all know that many people were never brought up to eat the right foods, especially these days.

Nutrients are ok, but eating the right foods is better. I heard that popping pills doesn't always work as well.

Still, ensuring you have the right nutrients in your diet does help, even if you do start later.

Very true must be organic of course, many people 'don't like that'!
Some pills should never be popped, particularly synthetic ones.
The biggest problem of expecting to get your nutrition from food is the quantity that you have to eat would more than likely make you fat!

Hi Adrian,
If you don't have a terminal condition then I don't think it's ever too late to give your health a boost either by exercising more or increasing your vitamin dosage.

Thank you for that, my grandfather used to say that " an ounce of prevention was worth a pound of cure". It still applies today.
Adrian.

Well, that was a cheerful article... I'm quite sure that I don't eat as healthy as I should, but I have been taking vitamin supplements for many years now. It does seem to help. Thanks for the info.

Thank you for your comment James, I hope that the vitamins you are taking are natural food supplements and not synthetic vitamins!
Adrian.

It's so true that many people don't think of prevention when it comes to their health. We have more control over our health than we seem to want to take responsibility for ...until too late.

Yes, and then they have been brain washed into thinking that nutrition can't help and only drugs can cure them.
