Eating healthy
By Adge747 Parker of Healthy Answers
Health is generally thought to be the absence of a clinically diagnosed disease. However if your energy levels are low is this a warning that there is a pending disease? One that so far has not caused any discomfort or pain, but is non-the-less there and you feel that ‘something’ isn’t quite right. Is now the time when you should think about prevention or wait until things deteriorate and then look for the cure? Then, perhaps the medical profession are for you, as they tend to try and ‘fix’ you after you have the illness, with targeted drugs. Preventative nutrition on the other hand is holistic and uses compounds, which your body is familiar with and depends upon. Its aim is to gently boost your repair system against pollution, stress, free radicals, carcinogens, toxins and infections like viruses and bacteria. It helps deal with the cause of potential problems. A good part of the cause of poor health today is our lifestyles and depletion of nutrients in our diet. The average content of minerals in our fruit and vegetables has declined over the last 50 years, so that we are consuming more food but fewer nutrients and are therefore malnourished. We have even forgotten how to eat properly, our grandparents were taught to chew each mouthful of their food at least 20 times, today in our hurry up society we only have time for a couple of quick chews then we must swallow. Bolted food provides less micro-nutrients as unchewed food passes rapidly through the digestive tract, perhaps this is a reflection on the fast food industry who market ‘pre-chewed food’ that easily supplies calories but precious little in the way of nutrients or nutrition.

Great intel, Adrian. You made me remember my grandparents preaching to slow down and chew my food. I'm sure that they didn't know about micro-nutrients in the 1940's. Thank you for sharing and for the memories. Frederick

Thank you Frederick, perhaps they knew instinctively what scientists are paid a fortune to find out!
MOst people seem to like the easy way - eat a bunch of junk then get sick, then maybe make a dietary change, or maybe not. I agree that eating well can prevent the illness in the first place. its hard to convince my students of this who are so young and seemingly healthy and eat fast food all the time sigh. keep up the good work!
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Older sick people are just as bad, they say I've eaten it all my life and it hasn't done me any harm! Why are you sick then? SIGH! We keep trying though.
