Nutrition

By Adge747 Parker of Healthy Answers

We should supplement our diet daily with powerful disease fighting antioxidants and other nutritional supplements. There are a lot of misconceptions around about vitamins, minerals and antioxidant supplements. The most common are: -
Myth Number 1
Nutritional supplements are not necessary.
I get all the nutrients I need from my food. Your body needs a precise mix of 59 nutrients on a daily basis, including 13 vitamins and 22 minerals. The USDA surveyed 22,000 Americans and discovered that only 3% actually ate healthily. Of the 22,000 people in the survey, not one of them received all of the 10 most important vitamins and minerals on a daily basis! Not one person. But people say to me every day “ I don’t need vitamins. I’ll just eat healthy”. Until the 1940’s, farmers returned essential nutrients to the soil by mulching, manuring and crop rotation. At the end of the war, the drug conglomerates that made the nitrates and phosphates for armaments were left with no one to buy their product. Earlier experiments had shown that many plants will grow on a mixture of three minerals, nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K). this knowledge helped the war chemical manufacturers dupe the farmers into believing this cheap fertilser (NPK) would make their crops grow even better than the traditional soil enrichment process, which was considerably more time consuming and uneconomical by comparison. This mixture NPK, grows fine looking crops, with abundant yields. But your body isn’t a plant, it needs so much more than nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. It needs selenium, chromium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, iodine, molybdenum, zinc, cobalt, boron and vanadium. NPK fertilisers do not contain the essential minerals for human health, because they were never designed for human nutrition. As an example, in 1948, a bowl of spinach used to contain about 150 milligrams of nutrients, today you’d have to eat around 75 bowls to get the same quantity. Its only taken 50 years to deplete our food to that extent I can only imagine how bad it will get in the next 50!
Processing destroys our food. As an example consider peas. Peas cooked from garden fresh loose 56% of their vitamins by the time they are on your plate, but frozen peas loose 94%. Delicious white bread. In order to make flour that can be stored without spoiling, food processors remove the precious and nutritious outer layer of the wheat. In doing so remove most of the 22 vitamins and minerals.
We are literally starving to death! If we go back in time a few hundred years… ‘Well fed’ sailors also starved to death because of a disease known as scurvy. What caused this disease? Simply a deficiency in one vitamin, Vitamin C. what is the scurvy of today? Heart disease, cancer and the other deadly seven. Our immune systems weakened by deficiencies of vitamins and minerals, we are over fed and under nourished.

I had no idea frozen peas lost so much of their nutritional value. I believe in suppliments but I also think you need to be careful and take them under the care of a natropathic physician as often people think they know what they need and end up taking too much of something or taking it in a synthetic and processed form that is too condensed or does more harm than good. Thaks for the intel, Im always a fan of the nutrition articles!

Even worse is the fact that with modern agricultural methods the nutrients are in short supply to begin with. You should never take synthetic supplements as they are the opposite of natural Food supplements, and if food supplements are good for you and synthetics are opposite! So it only becomes an issue if you are taking high strength synthetics, your body was meant to process food.

It can be hard to get all of the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals you need, and that's for sure. Sometimes you feel like you would have to eat 3,000 calories a day to squeeze in all of the things you need!

This is why you need Food Supplements, from organic sources. Also depends where you get your calories from two sweet biscuits or 1lb of carrots!

Thank you for sharing this much needed information, Adrian.
We take vitimins, minerals and exercise every day. Age still creepsup, but we honestly feel better, move at a faster pace and are in better health at 74 then when I retired at age 62.
Best wishes to you.
